Privacy Policy for Promptu

Effective 2 September 2026.

Promptu does not collect, transmit, or sell your data. This document explains why that is a structural fact rather than a promise.

The app cannot send data anywhere

Promptu does not request the INTERNET permission. Android enforces this at the operating system level: an app without that permission cannot open a network connection, so no script, no setting, and no usage data can leave your device through the app — whatever its code might try to do.

You can check this yourself without taking our word for it: Android lists every permission an app holds under Settings → Apps → Promptu → Permissions, and the Play listing discloses the same set before you install. The complete list Promptu requests is:

PermissionWhat it is for
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOWDraw the prompter strip over your camera app
FOREGROUND_SERVICE + ..._SPECIAL_USEKeep the strip on screen while you record
POST_NOTIFICATIONSShow the playback controls in your notification shade

None of these grant access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location, or files. Promptu never asks for them because it never needs them — it displays text and nothing else. It cannot see or record what you are filming.

There are no analytics, advertising, or crash reporting libraries in the build.

What is stored, and where

Your scripts, emphasis marks, reading pace, text size, and mirror setting are saved in Promptu's private storage on your device. No other app can read them. Uninstalling Promptu deletes all of it.

The one time your scripts leave the device

Promptu allows Android's standard Auto Backup, which is on by default for most apps. This means your scripts are included in the backup your phone makes to your own Google account, so that they survive a factory reset or a move to a new phone.

Two things are worth knowing about that backup:

If you would rather your scripts never left the device at all, you can turn this off system-wide in Settings → Google → Backup, or per-app on many devices.

Scripts you share into Promptu

When you send text to Promptu from another app's share sheet, that text is copied into Promptu's local storage and treated like any other script. Nothing is sent onward.

Children

Promptu collects no data from anyone, including children under 13.
